Unassigned Entry #2 Navy: The other side of the story

For this semester I plan on keeping a theme with my unassigned blog entry's. I plan on telling my side of the story of being with a Navy man. I hope everyone enjoys it and continues to read my blog. :)

Like I have said before "it is never easy having someone you love be in the military whether it be boyfriend, girlfriend, son, daughter, brother, mother, sister, father, ex..," but the one thing that stays the same is that no matter how far the distance is you will always love them. In my case that is very true. My boyfriend who is in the Navy is of now stationed in Great Lakes, IL. He is finishing up his ATT schooling and then he will soon be transferred to California to finish his job training, better known as A School.

While all of this is going on I am stuck at home to go to school and well I would be working except for the fact that Pizza Hut is corrupt so I quit my job and now they are out one person, but hey not my fault they treated me like crap. Anyways, I live my day to day life, but it is never the same not having the one person you love by your side. I have been very involved in many support groups online and they do help, but either way you slice it, it will never be the same. We both are miserable, but hey when the Navy has your man there is really nothing you can do, but work around them. At least I still have most of my freedom. Knowing how lonely we both were, my boyfriend planned a trip for me to come up there to see him the weekend before Valentine's day so we could see each other and celebrate. Little did I know I would be in for the surprise of my life.

Upon arriving into Chicago on the 8th of February, I was freezing, but so glad to be off the plane due to my terrible fear of flying. Not only was it a four hour flight, I then had to drive two hours just to get to the base (for those of you who have never been there, traffic in Chicago on a Friday night is well......you get the gist.). Any who, seeing him after the first month and a half of him being gone was like seeing him for the first time. It was amazing and the best feeling to know I could have my best friend and better half back even if it was only for three days, but It was so worth it. After finally making it to the base and back to our place for the night, I had met all his family and we had been left alone for the evening until the morning when we would venture out into Chicago to see Sears Tower.

Since we would not be together for Valentine's day he decided we should celebrate that night. After exchanging what I though was all our gifts, he surprised me with one more. He told me he loved me and to close my eyes. After just a few moments of suspense I opened my eyes to see my boyfriend on one knee holding a small black box with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I then heard the words "will you marry me" and I had to hold back the tears of extreme joy so I could get out the word "yes". I was so surprised, but so happy. I had no idea that he had planned this or that he had already called my parents right before we picked him up to ask them if he could marry me. I was so happy to think that I will be able to spend the rest of my life with this man and no matter where he goes I will be able to go with him and be a family wherever the Navy may take him.

Being with someone in the Navy is never easy, but when you go from girlfriend to fiancee it makes it that much easier to know one day we will always be together.

I hoped this story is not to sappy and I will continue the semester with more stories from the other side of the  Navy: Being the Fiancee.
